It depends on your weight, skill level and wind conditions. You will learn the basics on this from your lessons but the most common sets of kites people buy are 7, 9 & 12m or 8m and 10m. Depending on the wind where you live you may need to go up/down a meter or two for stronger/lighter winds. Please ask for further details.
- Freeride kites: all-rounders for easy cruising and jumps. The most popular kites on the market.
- Big-air kites: powerful, high-aspect designs for massive jumps and hang time.
- Freestyle kites: designed for unhooked tricks and pop.
- Wave kites: drift well and turn quickly for surf riding.
- Foil kites: ultra-efficient kites for light-wind, foiling or racing.
- Kite: generates the pull.
- Bar and lines: control and power the kite.
- Harness: connects you securely to the kite.
- Board: lets you ride the water (twin-tip, surfboard or foil).
- Safety leash & pump: small essentials you’ll always need.
Board size depends on your weight, skill level and riding style.
As a guide:
- Beginners: 135–145 cm — larger boards make learning easier and planing quicker.
- Intermediate riders: 132–138 cm — good balance of control and pop.
- Heavier riders (90 kg+): 140–150 cm for more lift in light wind.
- Lighter riders (under 70 kg): 128–134 cm for better control in strong wind.
If you’re unsure, go slightly larger — it’ll get you riding earlier and upwind faster.
- Twin-tip: the standard kiteboard for most riders — rides both directions, easy to learn on.
- Surfboard (directional): for wave riding and strapless tricks.
- Foil board: rides above the water on a hydrofoil for ultimate efficiency and glide.

    Flat, shallow water and consistent wind make learning easier and safer.
Rinse with fresh water, dry thoroughly before packing, avoid UV exposure, and regularly check bridles, valves and pigtails for wear. Keep sand out of your bar and pulleys.
Yes but lessons are essential for learning. Modern kites have excellent safety systems, and with proper lessons and sensible conditions, it’s very safe. The key is learning control before adding power.
3-strut kites are lighter, faster-turning and better in lighter winds — ideal for freeride, wave and foil use. They drift and relaunch easily, making them great all-rounders.

5-strut kites have extra frame support, giving them more stability, higher top-end range and better hang time — perfect for big air, strong wind and heavier riders.

If you want smooth handling and low weight, go 3-strut.
If you want maximum boost and wind range, go 5-strut.
