Sizing & volume
Pick length/volume for rider weight, wind and wave size. Heavier riders or softer winds benefit from a touch more volume and width. Smaller, lower-volume boards feel lively and hold speed in strong wind. Aim for a size that planes early yet stays controllable fully powered.
Outline, rocker & rails
Squash/round tail: balanced grip and release; a solid all-rounder.
Fish/swash tail: early planing and drive in smaller, mushier surf.
Pin/pulled tail: hold and control in bigger, steeper faces.
More rocker smooths turns and landings; flatter rocker runs faster upwind. Slightly tucked rails bite without catching in chop.
Fins & boxes
Most kitesurf boards run thruster or quad. Thrusters pivot tightly and feel predictable under a kite. Quads track fast and grip on rail for speed down the line. Use quality M5/M6 screws and check tightness after sessions.
