International field of Surfers competed at this weekend’s Saltburn Professional Surf Competition
Hundreds of spectators turned out to see the UK’s Top Professional surfers competing to win the UK title this weekend
The beach at Saltburn hosted round 1 of the UK Professional Surf Tour
The event had a real international flavor as competitors from Australia, France and South Africa joined the best of the UK to compete for the prize of winning the Saltburn Open
The event took place over Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May
Saturday saw a small swell of waves but with the promise of better conditions the event was held over until the Sunday. This proved the right decision as the surf improved with a swell consistently breaking all day
The full competition was run through-out the day with all 4 categories of competition completed
Highlights-
The current Men’s Pro Champion -Russell Winter (from Newquay Cornwall) won the Men’s competition with Gordon Fontaine (France) in second place. The Women’s Pro event was won by Holly Donnelly (from Newquay)

In the Men’s Pro division- local Newcastle surfer Sam Lamiroy competed and finished in 5th position
