Usage Tips

DO NOT over-tighten the grub screws with a tool or by hand. This will start to eat into the fiberglass and carbon fin tabs. It may also strip the plastic threads inside the plug and may also eat at the tab. DO make sure the screws are tight enough on the fins so they do not wiggle. This will also eat at the tab.

When changing fins be sure to remove any sand or grit from the plugs and screws and push the key in all the way into the screw. A paperclip is a good tool for cleaning out the grub screw while a cotton-tipped applicator with wax remover is good for clean.

If plugs are a little tight, use Vaseline, wax or other lubricant to help your fin slip into them.

If your plug is loose in your board then it is probably taking on water. Have it replaced.

If your fin hums at speed, sand the trailing or back edge smooth with 1200 grade wet and dry sandpaper.

Old keys with striped ends can be repaired by filing or cutting away the tip.

Try exchanging center fins between fin sets for ultra-customized performance.

Gaps or dents in fin tabs or on the fin can be repaired with solar resin.

A 3/32" allen key can be used in place of the FCS key.

Check all grub screws for damage before going on a surf trip.

When the grub screw is rounded: if you can get the fin out first it is easier to push the screw through into the plug rather than trying to back it out.

Pull fin straight up to avoid risk of puncturing the board during removal.

If you break a fin and can't get the tabs out of the plug, remove the grub screw and insert the key into the hole in order to gently wedge the tab out of the plug.

If the stainless steel screw is stripped and the fin is not in the board, try turning it clockwise thus dropping it into the plug.

If the screw is stripped with the fin still in the board, place a very small drop of super glue on the tip of the key and place in the grub screw making sure that the glue does not flow over into the plug and let dry. Then pull the key out with screw attached.
